Architectural Staff – Sacramento, CA or Portland, OR
We are seeking an Architectural Staff (non-licensed Architectural Staff Level I or Level II) to collaborate on building and/or urban design master plan projects that may include affordable, senior, or mixed-use multifamily housing; community serving commercial space; and other community benefit developments. This position is ideal for someone who brings technical and design knowledge; affordable housing experience; and enthusiasm for taking initiative through a framework of collaboration and empowerment.

Responsibilities (Role)
Level I: Fully competent in all conventional aspects of architecture. Independently performs a variety of assignments requiring skills in all conventional aspects of architectural designs for projects of moderate size and complexity. Performs analyses of design, planning, and occupancy studies, and limited design layouts. Prepares project outline specifications, compiling and analyzing relevant data, and coordinates with specification consultant. Reviews completed reports, plans, estimates, and calculations.
Able to respectfully lead and mentor more junior staff and teams; and support staff at any level when they need assistance
Develop a basic understanding of building and zoning codes
Able to understand how drawing set is put together and can cartoon out sets for communicating with project team
Able to coordinate submittal requirements for various jurisdictional applications
Level II: Competent in all requirements of Level I staff. Responsible for specific technical design aspects of an assigned major project, including investigation, evaluations, and recommendation of design solutions that best meets the client's needs. Provides professional architectural consultation in the planning, design, and coordination of larger complex projects. Independently applies advanced architectural concepts and designs. Carries out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures. May provide technical guidance to less experienced architects/architectural staff.
Able to delegate tasks with expected timelines to accomplish tasks. Works with staff to troubleshoot task completion in a timely manner
Can lead a team of 2+ people
Uses critical thinking skills to foresee or resolve issues on the project
Applies sound and diverse knowledge of architecture principles and practices in broad array of assignments and related fields
Acts independently regarding architectural methods and complexities
Experienced in Design Coordination
Experienced in all phases including Construction Administration
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong interest in collaborating with BIPOC community-based organizations. Commitment to racial and climate justice.
Able to follow direction from peers and more experienced staff and deliver work product requested.
Ability to create a digital model and 2D details from rough sketches with accuracy.
Proficiency in Revit and SketchUp.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
Rendering skills a plus.
Bilingual would be a plus.
Good relational and communication skills.
Education and Experience
Professional degree in architecture.
Minimum of 3 years of industry experience
Location
This is a full-time position based in Sacramento, CA or Portland, OR. We are currently working in a flexible hybrid office/remote model.

The salary range for this position is between $60K to $85K. We conduct pay equity reviews twice yearly and maintain transparency of salary ranges. Salary ranges are derived from AIA published data on office location, our firm’s size, and the staff’s job classification. We make adjustments for applicant’s skills; prior relevant experience; degrees and/or certifications; and changes to cost of living.
