Dos Rios Light Rail Station

Schematic design & community workshops

Rio Azul is a new light rail station near downtown Sacramento and the American River that was created through an extensive community design workshop process. The work included holding planning sessions with City and County agencies, meeting with neighborhood organizations, and leading community design charrettes. Integral to the design are solar PV shade canopies, rain gardens, a public toilet, and space for farmer’s markets and community events. Our environmentally focused work helped SacRT and the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency win $23 mil. in carbon cap-and-trade funds to build the station and adjacent affordable housing development.

Salazar Architect provided architecture and urban design services as a consultant to the Center for Public Interest Design at Portland State University who led the work. Consultants include JR Conkey Associates..
