Zygmunt Arendt House

Permanent supportive senior housing

Zygmunt Arendt House is a permanent supportive housing development for elders in the Western Addition / NOPA neighborhood of San Francisco that was designed to fit into the historic neighborhood. The building is Community Housing Partnership’s first permanent supportive housing project dedicated solely to formerly homeless seniors. The design locates community spaces and supportive services offices surrounding a sunny mid-block garden, encouraging elderly residents to participate in the communal life of the complex. On-site parking is tucked underneath in a discrete parking podium that takes advantage of the hillside.  Sustainable strategies support health and resource conservation, including renewable energy, non-toxic materials and finishes, and green stormwater strategies. The Community Design process consisted of a series of neighborhood meetings with nearby condo owners whose input informed our approach to the design of building facades.

Alex Salazar led the Schematic Design phase of this development as Project Director, while at WRT/Solomon E.T.C. James E. Roberts-Obayashi was the General Contractor.
